Preserving Hopewell earthworks

Innovative landscaping by native populations at the Hopewell Culture National Historic Park exemplifies understanding of architecture, astronomy and engineering. Mary Williams and students at Hughes STEM High School talked to members of the National Parks Service, which has filed for the complexes to be deemed World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) because of their cultural significance.

Produced by Mary Williams, Zephaniah Watkins, Rahjanera Smith, Eric Frohlich, Charles Davis, Tyler Kincaid and Terrace Kennedy, students at Hughes STEM High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Instruction provided by SRL Connected Educator Melissa Sherman. Mentor support provided by Tim Kraus.

Special thanks to the Hopewell Culture National Historic Park for the opportunity to explore the natural, cultural and educational resources being preserved for visitors from around the country and world by the park and its rangers.
