SRL Connected Educators: Janelle Bence & Danae Boyd

Janelle Bence currently facilitates English in a blended Humanities class at New Tech High @ Coppell in Texas. She has vast experience with English Language Learners and has taught for fourteen years in both urban and suburban school districts. As an Educator-Innovator, Janelle is an active teacher-leader at both local (North Star of Texas Writing Project) and national levels and has presented at many national conferences such as NWP, NCTE and SITE.

Her future projects include working with PBS NewsHour in the exciting Student Reporting Labs program, while continuing integrating social and digital media in responsive literacy project design.

Danae Boyd is the AP Human Geography and Pre-AP World Geography facilitator for the blended Humanities course at New Tech High @ Coppell in Texas. After graduating with a Social Science Education degree in 1993 from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas she has dedicated her life to teaching history, geography, and finding authentic opportunities for her learners to share their voice and make a difference. Her passion for service learning, media design, and journalism is seen through the work of her learners participation in the KQEDedspace Do Nows, project based learning design, and SRL digital media production. She can’t wait to see where her learners will go with such an innovative and timely platform, that is, Student Reporting Labs.
