Ruby Rosenberg

Passionate and driven, Ruby always knew she wanted to be a filmmaker and the opportunity arose when she joined Media Enterprise Alliance, a Student Reporting Lab in Oakland.

Fast-forward two years and Ruby is a freshman at Boston University where she is majoring in film and video production. She is also involved at BU Productions, one of the nation’s top film programs. An intimidating task to say the least, Ruby admits that she probably would not have been able to get into the program if it was not for SRL.

SRL team member Anita Wright caught up with Ruby to discuss her SRL experience and how the public media initiative helped her actualize her filmmaking dreams.

“When I joined SRL, that really gave me the opportunity to follow this dream and make it a reality for me,” said Ruby. “There was a moment when I was in SRL where I realized… this thing that I’ve been dreaming of… of going into media and making a name for myself, that’s actually a possibility now.

At the end of their conversation, Ruby stated that her dedication to filmmaking will always be there.

“Even if the initial plan doesn’t work out, I know I’m going to be in media somehow,” she said.
