Ask the Alumnus: Mya Long

Mya Long always loved video production, but it wasn’t until she enrolled in Julie Tieden’s journalism class at Black River Falls High School that she began to explore the ins-and-outs of broadcast journalism.
The summer before her senior year, Mya attended the SRL Student Academy in Washington, D.C. The experience convinced her to continue pursuing her passion for storytelling after high school.
Mya made unforgettable friendships during the week-long workshop, including a bond with SRL mentor and Arizona Public Media Senior Editor Steven Bayless. Bayless recognized Mya’s talent and drive early on. When he heard that she would be attending the University of Arizona, he made sure she would be part of the AZPM team.
Now a freshman at the UA, Mya is busy studying Film and Television, while putting her skills to practice as part of AZPM’s post-production student crew.
