Date: 2/5/2026

PBS News Student Reporting Labs is providing funding and resources for schools and community organizations to host local screening of Run, Hide, Fight: Growing up under the gun. Run, Hide, Fight follows young people in five major cities, where student-producers explore what it’s like to grow up in the shadow of gun violence and the actions that young people are taking to preserve hope for a safer future. These screenings are made possible due to a generous grant from The Hillman Foundation, and will take place over this spring.

The following schools and community organizations will host screenings and discussions, with the goal of creating a space for open dialogue about the impacts of gun violence, support, and envision community-based solutions:

Books From Bobby, Inc. – Stamps, Arkansas

Metropolitan Indianapolis Public Media – Indianapolis, Indiana

WMHT Educational Telecommunications – Troy, New York

Miami Senior High School – Miami, Florida

Everett High School – Lansing, Michigan

Hopeloft, Inc. – Bridgeton, New Jersey

Uncommon New York City Charter Schools – Brooklyn, New York

Rockville High School – Rockville, Maryland

About the documentary: Gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children and teens according to the CDC, but coverage of its impact on youth is often reported by adults. Run, Hide, Fight passes the mic to students from five cities across the U.S. cities: Philadelphia, Oakland, Washington D.C., Nashville, and East Lansing.

Each segment of the documentary was produced by student reporters and centers the perspectives of young people who live in the shadow of this threat. What is it like to be part of a generation growing up with the threat of school shootings and random acts of violence? What steps are young people taking to support one another and move toward a safer future? This documentary invites audiences to find hope in the younger generation taking action in the face of this uniquely American epidemic.
