Introducing the 2025-26 SRL Student Advisory Team

October 27, 2025

By: SRL Staff

PBS News Student Reporting Labs (SRL) recently selected 33 students from across the U.S. who will work closely with SRL staff to guide the team’s editorial decisions in the year to come: SRL’s 2025-26 Student Advisory Team.

The team will meet virtually from October through March to contribute feedback and perspectives about issues that matter to young people. Their guidance will help determine SRL’s editorial direction and prompts and assignments on the StoryMaker resource platform for the 2026-2027 school year.

“I’m really excited to work with this year’s group,” said editorial director Marie Cusick “The talented students who join SRL’s Advisory Team have been invaluable to us in shaping the kinds of stories that are meaningful to young people.”

NEW THIS YEAR

A group of 10 students within the Student Advisory Team will form SRL’s Content Crew to create short-form video content for SRL social media channels. Their content will focus on local stories and initiatives from their communities.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the inaugural Content Crew to help spotlight the incredible stories shaping local communities. Their voices and perspectives will bring a fresh energy to SRL’s social media channels and inspire audiences across the country,” said Rawan Elbaba, digital producer.

Members across the  advisory team are ready to bring their expertise and diverse approaches to the group.

“I know how it feels to be misrepresented in the media,” said Student Advisory Team member Bahara Nazari. This year, she says she hopes to use that perspective and her extensive experience in student journalism to help SRL and the Student Advisory Team “be true to the people that it represents, so fewer gaps are left unfilled.”

Student Advisory Team member Suhani Gupta says she sees her involvement as “a chance to bring my passion for storytelling to a national platform, to learn from professionals I’ve looked up to since I was a kid, and to keep sharing ideas that matter.”
