Live from New York: It’s SRL on American Graduate Day

What would you do if you were selected to be a youth correspondent during one of public media’s most important days of programming?

The students of Philip’s Academy Charter School and Montclair Kimberley Academy in Newark, New Jersey, rose to that challenge, joining their Student Reporting Labs mentor Lauren Wanko of NJTV on the set of American Graduate Day in New York City.

Featuring seven hours of national and local programming, live interviews and performances, American Graduate Day celebrates the exceptional work of individuals and groups across the country who are helping local youth stay on track to college and career successes.

The student journalists had the opportunity to interview American Graduate Day Host Wes Moore, a bestselling author, TV personality and champion for youth. They also had the chance to talk to singer-songwriter Andy Grammer, a VH1 Save the Music Foundation ambassador.

This video was produced by students at Philip’s Academy with mentor support from Lauren Wanko of NJTV.
