Tikeyah Whittle is a 2012 graduate of the University of Connecticut where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and fulfilled a minor in African-American studies.
She began her work at the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network as a media lab intern. Tikeyah was a key mentor to the students enrolled in the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Lab at America’s Choice at SAND, using her journalistic skills, ethics and knowledge of media to assist the students in completing their reports on high school dropouts and the Constitution.
In her short eight months with CPBN, Tikeyah has grown from an intern to a freelancer, and is now the Media Lab Instructor, a position she has held since August 2013. In this role, Tikeyah informs college interns on the practices and skills of a 21st century journalist. This includes working with industry standard equipment and software, and honing research and writing skills.
She has written for the New Britain Herald; the CTNewsJunkie; and UConn’s school newspaper, the Daily Campus where she covered Women’s Track and Field and Women’s Volleyball.
