Crossing the Divide: Simon Gomez

Woodrow Wilson High School | Washington, D.C.

When 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by a Ferguson police officer, his death set off riots and violence — and posed deep questions about race relations in America.

Since then, young people across the U.S. have voiced their opinions via protests and social media movements such as #blacklivesmatter.

As part of our ongoing series called Race Matters, we asked our network of Student Reporting Labs around the country to share their thoughts on what young people do to address the tensions that racial and other differences make in your community.

Simon Gomez is a senior at Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C.
